Overview

The Heartspring School is a private, not-for-profit (NGO), boarding school with a unique, one of a kind program for domestic and international students who need additional help and support in school.

Currently, we have a wide range of abilities and academic levels within our student body. Some students are studying at their grade level; earning high school diplomas. We also have many students who are primarily focusing on learning life skills and preparing for future placements.

At Heartspring, we teach students the necessary skills, so they can lead independent lives as contributing members of their community. Students will gain an increased independence in school, personal hygiene, interacting with others, activities in the community and training for employment.

The school program provides a customized and individualized education plan that the student's parents help develop. The student's education plan can be centered on academics, life skills or vocational skills, depending on the needs and wishes of the student and family.

Student Profile:

  • Students who have not been successful in regular public, private or state schools.
  • Boys and girls, ages 5-21
  • Students who learn more slowly than their peers
  • May have difficulty interacting with others
  • May have mild behavioral problems that interferes with their home and school life
  • May have a diagnosis of autism, Asperger syndrome, mental retardation, speaking difficulties, low vision or blindness, deaf/hard of hearing, cerebral palsy, or other disabilities.

English proficiency is highly encouraged. However, depending on the functioning level of the student, other appropriate accommodations may be available.

Heartspring is certified to enroll international students through the U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement's Student and Exchange Visitors Program (SEVP). The admissions office will provide your student with an I-20, if accepted into the Heartspring program.

We encourage all students and families to visit our 37-acre (14.9 hectares) campus to see the classrooms and facilities, living environments, and to meet other students and our staff.

The school accepts applications year round, however, as spaces are limited, early application is recommended. Applications made throughout the academic year will be reviewed on an individual basis.
